Fonts on this website

This site serves self-hosted subsets of three fonts from easy2fly.app, so your browser contacts no font service. All three use the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1, and each font’s license text ships with the font files.

Fonts that are not included

The Traditional Chinese pages name jf蘭陽明體 and jf蘭陽黑體 in their font list. This site does not include or serve those fonts. They show only on computers that already have them installed, and other computers use Songti TC, Noto Serif TC, PingFang TC or Noto Sans TC from the system.

Airport data

The offline airport list combines two open datasets.

# Third-party notices

Easy2Fly's airport list is built from two open datasets. Their notices follow. The packages Easy2Fly
depends on (React, Capacitor and the rest) carry their own licenses in `node_modules`.

## Airport data

The file `src/data/airports.generated.ts` is generated by `scripts/build-airports.mjs` from the two sources
below. It holds airport codes, names, cities, countries, coordinates (rounded to two decimals) and IANA time
zone names. The script corrects some time zones, repairs a name that was read in the wrong text encoding, drops
airports it cannot place, adds nicknames, the usual English names of cities and the names of islands and regions
that people search for, and ranks the rest; see the comments at the top of the script for the rules. The
generated file records the SHA-256 of each input.

- Used for: which airports have scheduled service and how large they are, which facility an IATA code
names, and other names for an airport (for search).

OurAirports states: "All data is released to the Public Domain, and comes with no guarantee of accuracy or
fitness for use." No permission is needed to use it. Thanks to David Megginson and the OurAirports contributors.

## Interface components and font

- Material Web (`@material/web`, Apache License 2.0, Google LLC) provides the ripple used by buttons, chips, rows,
segments and navigation. Its Lit runtime (BSD 3-Clause, Google LLC) is bundled with it.
- Roboto Flex (SIL Open Font License 1.1, The Roboto Flex Project Authors), from `@fontsource-variable/roboto-flex`,
is bundled as the interface font.
- The colour scheme was generated once with `@material/material-color-utilities` (Apache License 2.0); the tool
is a development dependency and is not shipped.

## Time zone and sun calculations

- Time zone rules come from the device's own tz database through `Intl`. Nothing from the tz database is
bundled, except that the tests carry a copy of its country-to-zone list (`zone.tab`, public domain) to
check the airport data.
- Sunrise, sunset and twilight use the equations published by NOAA's Global Monitoring Laboratory (after Jean
Meeus, *Astronomical Algorithms*). The code is written from the equations; no NOAA code is included.

## Used to produce test expectations only

These are not part of the app and are not distributed with it. They were run once, outside the repository, to
compute the expected values stored in the test fixtures:

- Python `zoneinfo` with the system tz database (tzdata 2026d), for time-zone offsets and wall-time resolution.
- Skyfield 1.55 (MIT) with the JPL DE440s ephemeris (NASA/JPL, public domain), and suncalc 2.1.1 (BSD 2-Clause,
Volodymyr Agafonkin), for sunrise, sunset and twilight.
- A separate Vincenty and haversine implementation, for distances.
